Rooted in Solidarity,
Growing in Rural Autonomy
Chartered on April 27, 1987 under West Nusa Tenggara Governor Decree No. 105, Perkumpulan YLKMP has dedicated nearly four decades to grassroots resilience, seed sovereignty, and community dignity across North Lombok.
Vision, Mission & Core Values
The guiding principles that shape our field facilitators, assemblies, and partnerships.
“To realize the capability, self-reliance, and autonomy of rural communities and grassroots collectives.”
IndependenceKemandirian
Fostering community critical awareness and self-determination free from structural dependency on external aid.
EqualityKesetaraan
Ensuring just participation, resource access, and customary leadership for women smallholders and traditional artisans.
BrotherhoodPersaudaraan
Upholding mutual solidarity (Gotong Royong) across village life in times of harvest, crisis, and shared water stewardship.
The Berugaq: Architecture of Consensus
In traditional Sasak hamlets throughout North Lombok, the Berugaq (an open wooden pavilion supported by four or six posts) is far more than a physical structure: it is the heart of egalitarian civic life. Without enclosing walls or hierarchical seating, every community member meets at eye level.
Since 1987, YLKMP has rooted its entire participatory methodology in the Berugaq. Whether resolving water distribution along mountain irrigation furrows, deciding emergency food stockpiles, or designing earthquake-resistant timber homes, decisions are never imposed from top-down offices. They are deliberated openly until communal consensus (musyawarah mufakat) is achieved.
- Wall-less Transparency: No secret negotiations; all village accounts and community allocations are voiced in the open.
- Inter-Generational Equality: Customary elders, women weavers, young farmers, and children share equal right to speak.
- Action Grounded in Consent: No program begins until the assembly ratifies its social contract (Awig-Awig).
